bullet Swami Vivekananda, a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, shook the world by his powerful speech given in the World Parliament of Religions, Chicago, on Sept 11, 1893. Attachment

I think that one of the reasons due to which I suffer is the attachment to impractical things. I enjoy being attached, but I am not able to get out of it easily, which brings misery. For example, consider a case when a man loves a woman. The woman loves another man, who also loves her. The first man is a good friend of both the woman and the second man. Now, after the woman realises her love for the second man, she gives most of her time and attention to the second man only. The first man feels that the woman has changed, as she is devoting very less time, as compared to the time he used to give her. As a result he feels anger, frustration and loneliness. But simultaniously he can not get away with her thoughts. The solution. Swami vivekananda said in his lecture "work and its secret". Have attachment to your subject in order to enjoy it. But simultaniously have an equal power of detachment to come out of the situation at your will. Enjoy but be not enjoyed. Rule but be not ruled. This is similar to the case of a bee which came to sip the honey, but its feet stuck to the surface. Why suffer from the imperfection of others and yours in an imperfect world. Why not take it as a learning experience, and use this for getting detached, growing within and finding the perfect one- the God. If you succeed in doing this you won't have any complaints or regrets against anyone. You will calm down and experience peace and bliss.

About life's problems

When we are faced with problems/blunders we often try to find where the source of problem was. Most of the time some people tend to take blame on themselves, thus getting unhappy. Assuming life is a play and we are actors that have been given unique roles to perform, it provides a straight forward answer. Instead of feeling sad about the episode - focus on your circle of influence. There is no need to blame or punish yourself for someone else's mistakes. If you performed your job well, you should be satisfied. Don't set unrealistic expectations. Here is the area where the idea of idealism is to be carefully applied. You should set your own standards of judging yourself. Realize your true assets - your body, heart, mind and brain. Love them and care about them. Let not external and especially uncontrollable factors exploit them.

Adversity

"I am thankful for that period of my life because it hardened me and enabled me to be tough as I now am.And I am even more thankful because I appreciate the fact that I was thus saved from the emptiness of a life of ease and that a mother's darling was taken from tender arms and handed over to adversity as a new mother.
